Stromovka

By Jennifer Page

Right next to the fairgrounds, Stromovka is well worth the short trip from your apartment or the college.  Stromovka is a huge park that has beautiful weeping willows surrounding the duck ponds and shaded trails with trees that have been there since the Middle Ages.  At the front of the park, there is a planetarium and café, and you can follow the numerous trails that branch out behind them to reach playgrounds, the pond, and open areas.  Stromovka is also a hot spot for biking and roller blading, and there is a place to rent them near the front of the park as well.  “Stromovka is sometimes called the Royal Deer Park because it was used as a hunting preserve in the Middle Ages.”  Today you can still see the stately grounds and trees of the park and realize why it has been such a gathering place for the locals of Prague for so many years.  Historical Information taken from the Lonely Planet: Best of Prague guide book written by Richard Watkins. 2004.
