Riegrovy Sady

By Jennifer Page

Sometimes there is a need to get away from the concrete and noise of the city, and in Prague, there are numerous parks to escape in.  Riegrovy Sady is a centrally located park in Vinohrady, Prague 2 that is easy to walk to if you are in the neighborhood.  Riegrovy also boasts one of the biggest beer gardens in Prague, which is a main draw for locals and tourists alike.  If you miss playing soccer or baseball, there is a huge sports complex in the middle of the park that includes fields, a track, skateboard park, and pool.  Although it is not the cleanest or most modern park, Riegrovy is big, and an extensive network of trails is great for walking or running.  As you wander around the sometimes hilly paths, you can wander up to the high west-side hill and see a wonderful view of Prague Castle and the rest of the red-roofed city.  On the Polska Street side of the park, there is a sloping green space that locals go to soak up the sun on warm days.  From there, it is a short walk to the café and beer garden. . .
